2.) Why do human beings seek knowledge?
The reason why humans seek knowledge is because they have but the energy into discovering the information, and also because they want to understand how things work and what their purpose is. Humans want to understand because they have a need to become full of the knowledge that their primitive ancestors lacked. Humans are always moving towards a greater understanding of the world. I believe that if we did not seek knowledge then we would lose the knowledge that we currently have. We study to preserve the knowledge that we have. We also use studying as a catalyst for thoughts, it gives us information to ponder an interesting conclusions to draw. If a person is a very bright thinker but is illiterate or in some way uneducated their intelligence is wasted, and a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Genius without education is like silver in the mine.” People seek knowledge because it would be a horrible use of life to not use your brain to improve your life and the lives of others. Knowledge is power and therefore people who are uneducated are ill equipped with the tools to be in a position of power. We seek knowledge because all humans wan to understand. People must be educated to a degree that it enables them to make discoveries of their own, which is indeed the truest form of seeking knowledge. When discoveries are made it is then the right of the discoverer to prosper off of his discovery such as getting a patent on an idea. It is also the right of the discoverer to share his ideas with the rest of the world for the benefit of others. We study because over the years people have realized that it is important to pass on the gift of knowledge to our posterity thought the form of school and collage. Society has also given prestige and privilege to the well read and well educated students because they are more likely to succeed. Those who go on to collage earn more than those who don’t go to collage. People who drop out of high school earn just a fraction of what the salary of a person who went on to collage earns. The insatiable human curiosity that follows people is what causes both our desire, and in my opinion, need to learn. It is natural for people to want to discover more and with education discovery is merely seeing what others have seen and thinking what no one before has thought. Those are just a few of the reasons why humans have an insatiable appetite for knowledge.
