- Blog – Some say we are becoming a visual society. Is a visual argument more persuasive than a written one? Why or why not?
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and in our increasingly digitalized society no one can deny it. Media filled with pictures fills our minds pictures can grab a readers attention and transmit an enormous amount of information with only a quick glance from the audience an effective picture can say far more than the raw facts of a situation. For instance, Invisible Children has with only a few documentaries moved millions to get involved to help put a stow to a war in Northern Uganda. If the pen is mightier than the sword surely the camera is mightier than the AK-47. The realism of showing the actual brutality of a war, and the horrors of the aftermath helps to appeal to human’s emotions and their sense of right and wrong much stronger than if a person were just to describe the atrocities of what was going on in that war.
