Blog – Analyze the way that David Langley uses evidence in his piece on skateboarding. You might find it useful to compare his use of evidence to that of Michael Levin (“A Case for Torture”).
David Langley uses evidence in a very effective manner to support his thesis on skateboarding. David Langley uses personal experience coupled with examples that are well known problems that skateboarders have with the way the existing system treats them. David Langley cites examples of how skateboarders have been discriminated against due to their form of recreation and transportation. David Langley shows by a logical progression that skateboarding is the natural reaction of some people to living in a urban environment. He points out that skateboarders are not social outcasts, and that skateboarding is a sport that is environmentally friendly and helps maintain physical fitness. The argument in A Case for Torture is much weaker because it relies only on hypothetical situations by scaring the reader that if we don’t torture we will doom thousands of innocent civilians, and thus have a catastrophe whose results will be on our conscience for the rest of our life. Which is think is a much more primitive argument
