- Blog – Respond to the movie. Comment on the idea of ‘live and let live’.
I was very impressed with the movie, the whole thing was done superbly well and did a great job of showing people for who they were rather than the ideas they represented. The acting was great and the whole movie felt very real (because it was real). I found it quite impressive in the wide spectrum that the movies covered from the media to the trials to the teachers in the university and the people who knew Matthew Sheppard. The people in Laramie talked about “live and let live” as thought it was an unofficial town model. The old western you have you agenda I have mine. However in the case of Matthew Sheppard live and let live turned into live and let die. Live and let live did not work out in the end and an innocent man was killed and a town was left wondering why people would do such a thing.

Chris, I don't think live and let live was necessarily a statement that was supposed to be a preventative measure by any means. I think it was more so just something the town believed in.
Interesting point though
Chris, I agree and respect with your views on the film. However, I found that live and let live was a motto applying to Laramie, Wyoming, and the west as a whole. I do not think that one psychopathic gay basher changes the whole western ideology on conflict avoidance.
*edit: two psychopathic gay bashers
