Vázquez

Vázquez waits later to reveal the orientation of “Brian” and “Mickey” giving readers time to establish an opinion and then to shatter it if the opinion disagrees with Vázquez’s opinions on the topic. This also shows how people do judge others and how wrong those judgments can be. The reason why she chooses incidences of violence against heterosexuals is it takes an issue that is a problem for the homosexual community, and “not my problem” for everybody else and craftily points out that this is a problem for heterosexuals too. By doing this it makes her call to action more effective and makes her point more convincing to a wider range of audiences. The issue changes in the minds of the readers when they think, “that could just as easily be me” thus making them more likely to act, so as to prevent themselves from sustaining bodily harm.
