outcast

Blog – Hampl describes an incident she experienced that profoundly moved her. Describe a situation that moved you in a similar manner.

150- 200 words

A situation, which moved me in a similar way to Hampl’s situation was when I was at Zionsville Middle School. I was an outcast, it was my first year there and unlike everybody else who knew each other from kindergarten I was arriving in the beginning of 7th grade, easily the worst time for a teen or preteen to move to a totally new and hostile situation. The drama and gossip occurring at usual schools was magnified by the fact that each of theses acne faced kids was in the middle of an overdose of hormones which doctors call puberty. Many of the guys felt the need to act macho or athletic, fighting and playing football. Which are similar except that when you play football you don’t get sent to guidance. This time in life was stressful, annoying, and awkward. Just like the girl in the story watching the lovers however. I felt jealous that I was no a part of all the events going on. I had to repress my “dorky” interests in archaeology and history and yet I still wanted to be with their group, why, because I wanted to be accepted.
