The essay by Mantsios does not make a case that the wealthy are exploiting the poor.

The reason why I say this is that those who are rich are not said to be vindictive cold heartless people. In fact, it is clear that most people perceive the lower middle class and upper lower class to be middle class because they dress the same and look the same as the middle class. As a result the rich and middle class do not perceive that they are much wealthier than the people below them, hence leading to the perception that only the minority or people are poor. The article does not say that the wealthy are exploiting the poor it merely points out the gross differences in the amount or money made by the rich and the middle class/ lower class. The article in fact points out that the ways to stop this trend are just beyond simple control.
