Emerson writes in thick difficult to read language here is a translation

  • Blog – What is Emerson saying it takes to be successful? Do you agree? Is it that easy

Emerson is saying that what it takes to be successful is a dependency on oneself and, oneself alone. To eat a human must produce or support themselves by the fruit of their own labor. Society cannot make a person successful, while it is not a bad thin , people must not make themselves engrained in the attitudes of society. Society only gives people one chance to be successful. If a person fails, society will consider them ruined, their life to be forfeit. Despite this when a human goes to lead his life, a life free from the expectations and constraints of society he gets as many chances as he will allow himself to believe he has because the only standard of success that he has to reach is his own. His own standard doesn’t require him to conform to the whims of other humans, instead it allows him to lead his life as he whishes it to be lead.
