- Blog – What about this essay reminds you of our initial discussions of language? What new perspective does it bring up?
I thought that this document is interesting because of how it shows that there is really no such thing as unbiased reporting, but, at the same time reporters are not being dishonest when they state their opinions on a story because they are not intentionally distorting it. I thought the authors made a good point about how larger portions of time were spent on “tangible” events like the collapsed bleachers than events that were about “ideas” that could not be photographed or filmed, like the passing of legislation. I very much liked their interpretation of our love of fire, as an incarnate form of destruction and chaos because I view fire differently depending on context unlike the article would suggest. This article make the me think, if it is impossible to not have biased news then how must we view our news without biasing the bias of the news.
