Black boy, gratification

  • Why does Wright feel gratified after sharing his writing?

Wright feels gratified in sharing his writhing because his writing takes him out of the world that he lives in and into a world that he creates. Because his writing is affirmed as being good and original it gives Richard a sense of pride, which he normally did not have since almost no one ever affirms him. The realization that he can do something right is important because all people need to feel this. Even more so Richard is gratified by how his writing’s meaning is not grasped by the girl who he shares his story with. He has realized importance of his education prior to this, however this is one of the first times he has something to show for it. From this Richard gains self-confidence and a sense of self worth thru his work. It is also significant that he is gratified from this first writing because he grows up and becomes a writer.
