All in all you just a 'nother brick in The Wall

  • Blog – To what extent do you agree that we don’t really need to go to school?

To answer this question I will clarify by pointing out that John Taylor Gatto says people do not need to be schooled, but do need an education. I disagree that people do not really need to go to school. Schools educate people who often do not have the resources to educate themselves. John Taylor Gatto distorts the negative effects of school. People really do need school, while there may be some suppression of students within the system it is not as far reaching as Gatto would have us believe. People need to receive some sort of an education, lest society become illiterate and mentally crippled. I personally have been in homeschooling, public school, and private school. While each they are each flawed in different ways it is clear to me that one must chose the most accessible of these evils and receive an education from it. so in this sense I disagree that we do not need to go to school.

I thought it was good that you had brought in your own personal experiences to your blog because it gave your point much more credibility. Though i think that Gatto does distort the effects of school, I don't think he distorts them as much, rather he described the wrong system, for in my experience private schools always separated people more than the public. Overall good job and the personal story really helped it.
