- Blog – Do you value the ‘nonacademic’ education you are receiving? Why or why not?
I value the nonacademic education that I receive because the school system could not teach me all that I need to know by itself. While many things that I have learned in my nonacademic education have had a base in my academic education the reverse is also true. Skills like first aid, swimming, and driving are all useful but none of these I learned in school. In the case of first aid it has helped me in school while studying some areas of anatomy. To function in American society as an adult it is necessary to know how to drive. Much of the valuable information I have learned comes from my parent’s advice or my own personal experience. As a result, I do value my nonacademic education because without it I could not be a functioning member of society. For me it is impossible not to appreciate the nonacademic aspects of my education.
