More contemporary versions of Martha Stewart are common; Oprah is one of the clearest examples of this Martha Stewart phenomena. Oprah has a large faithful following of disciples, a magazine, and a TV show. Oprah is not a show that I watch. However I know that Oprah has a “do whatever you set your mind to” attitude because she lost weight and advocated for her viewers to do the same. She also decided to run a marathon, and did so, all 26 miles of it. It should be noted that she had the best trainers that money could buy, a resource that her followers likely did not have. Still, Oprah is probably a better role model than Martha Stewart. Unlike Martha Stewart, Oprah did not go to jail. In addition a marathon is an aspiration that regardless of money is hard to accomplish, and one that is a noteworthy achievement regardless of who accomplishes it because of the amount of dedication and effort it requires.
