I picked the passage from the text on page 266. This passage talked about how Sothern whites had made blacks hate themselves, and how the Sothern blacks hated whites for it. I found was interesting how the hate had gone full circle. The most interesting part was his description of black being at war with reality and as a result were burdened, slowed down, and dragged down by this struggle so that their function was reduced and this process forced them to appear to the whites as dumb and just affirmed the whites beliefs, causing the vicious cycle to repeat. Another interesting thing that Wright says is ‘the part of his brain that whites had given him knew that none of his dreams were possible’. I found it particularly interesting, the whites had brainwashed most blacks of aspiration so deeply that even Richard felt it’s profound effects.
